Chris, why do you look so nervous? You've been staring at that paper for ten minutes.
Chris
Shhhh... keep your voice down. I'm just looking at something.
Maya
That doesn't sound normal. Is that your essay for English class?
Chris
Not exactly. It's my ex-girlfriend's old essay. She wrote it last year.
Maya
Chris, that's plagiarism. I know you're under pressure, but you could get suspended for that.
Chris
I know, but I'm running out of time. If I don't turn something in tomorrow, I'll flunk.
Maya
I get that you're stressed, but copying someone else's work will only make things worse.
Chris
She said I could look at it before we broke up. I don't think it's a big deal.
Maya
Looking at it for ideas is one thing. Turning it in as your own work is completely different.
Chris
Maybe. But I'm already behind, and my grade is on the line.
Maya
Then let me help you make an outline. You can still write your own paper tonight.
Chris
You'd really help me?
Maya
Yes, but I'm not going to help you cheat. I'm gonna help you do it the right way.
Chris
I guess that's why she broke up with me. She said I'm always trying to take the easy way out.
Maya
That probably hurt to hear, but maybe this is your chance to prove you can do better.
Chris
Yeah... I don't want to get expelled over one paper.
Maya
Exactly. One bad decision can have serious consequences.
Chris
Thanks for helping me, Maya.
Maya
That's what friends are for. Come on. Let's get down to it.
